Why don’t you sell retractable leads?
Retractable leads are not suitable tools for guiding and handling a dog.
Unlike fixed-length leads, they introduce variables that are difficult to manage and reduce real control during walks.
Key issues include:
- Unstable grip: the handle is often bulky and can slip easily from the hand
- Limited control: when the dog gains speed, it becomes difficult to manage distance and direction
- Risky instinctive reactions: people often grab the cord with their free hand, risking burns or injuries
- Braking mechanism: the stop is abrupt. The dog does not receive a gradual cue, but a physical impact that may create tension or discomfort
- Unclear communication: the constantly changing distance makes consistent guidance difficult
These factors can affect both the dog’s safety (joints, posture, stress) and the handler’s safety.
For these reasons, retractable leads are not part of our selection.
