How do I use the shampoo? | FAQ
Using shampoo correctly is just as important as choosing the right product.
The shampoos available on DIXY'S are concentrated and must be diluted before use. The recommended dilution is up to 1:30, meaning 1 part shampoo to 30 parts water.
To dilute the product correctly, you can use a mixing bottle, a clean container, or a measuring jug. Pour in lukewarm water first, then add the shampoo, close the container, and gently shake to mix.
What does 1:30 mean in practice?
- Small dog → 10 ml shampoo + 300 ml water
- Medium dog → 20–30 ml shampoo + 600–900 ml water
- Large dog → 40 ml shampoo + 1200 ml water
If needed, for example in the case of long, dense, or very dirty coats, you can increase the quantity while maintaining the same ratio.
Proper procedure
- Prepare the diluted shampoo before starting
- Thoroughly wet the coat with lukewarm water
- Apply the diluted shampoo gradually, distributing it evenly
- Massage gently with your hands, without scrubbing harshly
- Leave it on for the recommended time, if indicated
- Rinse thoroughly until all residue is removed
A well-formulated shampoo should cleanse while supporting the natural structure of the coat, without altering its balance over time.
Proper dilution
- Improves product distribution
- Prevents build-up
- Makes washing gentler
- Helps with more effective rinsing
The goal is not to wash more, but to wash better, respecting your dog's coat and skin.
An important aspect to consider
If a shampoo does not require dilution, it often means it is already largely composed of water. This results in using a greater quantity at each wash, without necessarily achieving better cleansing.
Similarly, it's important to observe how much foam the shampoo produces:
- More foam does not mean higher quality
- Excessive foam may indicate the presence of more aggressive surfactants
A proper cleanse should be effective yet gentle, without disrupting the natural balance of the skin and coat.
Choosing the right shampoo based on coat type
Curly coats (Poodle, Lagotto, Bichon Frisé, etc.)
We recommend a volumising shampoo, paired with its conditioner, for:
- More defined curls
- Increased body in the coat
Long and straight coats (Maltese, Afghan Hound, long-haired Chihuahua, long-haired Dachshund, Yorkshire, etc.)
We recommend a smoothing shampoo, paired with its conditioner, for:
- Easier brushing with fewer tangles
- A softer, more fluid coat
- Enhanced shine without weighing it down
Weak, fragile, or dull coats
We recommend a revitalising cleanser for:
- A softer, more luminous coat
- Improved elasticity of the hair fibre
All coat types – Carbon Detox

- All breeds and coat types
- Light coats or those prone to yellowing
