Our Story
Nice to meet you! I’m Zaira – former Export Manager (USA, Canada, UK), Language Consultant and Certified English Language Examiner, and now founder of DIXY’S!
After resigning from my last and much-loved career in the Italian Air Force language school, as a didactics coordinator, I knew that it was time to move on! I wasn’t exactly sure what I would do. The only thing I knew was that I wanted to work from home because I wanted a dog.
And that’s how I met Dixy! She was the last of her litter, a tiny cloud of red, fluffy curls with two eyes that stared deep into my soul. It was then that I knew we’d be inseparable. She has been by my side ever since I brought her home, she’s my shadow night and day, my best friend.
Ever since she was a puppy, Dixy came everywhere with me: to restaurants, supermarkets, on holiday. She never left my side. So, dressing her in warm clothes obviously became a priority as her first winter drew closer. And as much as I looked for clothes suitable for her, I just couldn’t find exactly what I was looking for. Everything just seemed the same. If it was comfortable, it wasn’t trendy. And if it was trendy, it was uncomfortable. I wanted something different for her, something unique that would make her stand out. But at the same time, something comfortable, made of high-quality fabrics, and of course something that wouldn’t knot her fur.
Was I asking for too much? Perhaps. But perhaps I was just looking to bridge the gap between comfort and style. And thus, I began my research and search for luxury quality clothes for pets. And soon DIXY’S became a reality as I realised I wasn’t the only one with this need.
Why luxury clothes and accessories for pets
A couple of decades ago it was almost unheard of dressing your pet, and those who did probably got stared at or judged. Luckily, over the years things changed and dogs with clothes started becoming the norm.
But why luxury? The word luxury is usually associated with designer brands. The Cambridge Dictionary defines it as “great comfort…” and to us at DIXY’S there is nothing more important than making sure that Fur-babies the world over wear clothes and accessories that are comfortable. Yet, at the same time, we also want our pets to make a fashion statement each time they go out.
Eco-friendly packaging
At DIXY’S we care deeply about our environment. That’s why every piece of our packaging, from the wrapping to the ribbon to the box, is made of paper or biodegradable plastic. We invite you to properly dispose of the packaging according to the norms in your country for a healthier and more green world!
Animal Shelter ANITA ONLUS
DIXY’S is dedicated to helping the less fortunate pups and kitties. A percentage of all sales is dedicated to the animal shelter ANITA ONLUS, located in our region. We also organise or take part in charity events to raise funds for other animal shelters outside our region. We are actively involved in helping find forever homes for these beautiful Fur-babies.

FAQs
Do dogs suffer from the cold?
This depends on the breed. Dogs with no undercoat generally do suffer from the cold. It is important for them to wear warm clothes in colder weather. Dogs with no undercoat generally do not feel cold. However, we need to bear in mind that nowadays, our dogs live indoors with us and the temperatures inside are much warmer than outside so be sure to cover them up when you take them out as the difference in temperature can harm them, especially if they are seniors. Senior dogs should always be kept warm.
How do I know if my dog is cold?
A clear sign is that they will start shaking, just like humans do! They also tend to assume a hunched posture and tuck their tail between their hind legs. Other signs include whining or looking for a type of shelter. Some dogs may also not want to step on snow or icy roads. So be sure to watch out for these signs!
Dogs feel cold on their chest area. This part of their body should always be covered when you take them outdoors in winter. Long coats or tops that reach their tail is not what will keep them warm – if anything they can be uncomfortable for them! The same goes for items with sleeves that are too long. These too should be avoided as they prevent natural leg movement.
What fabrics are suitable for my pet?
In summer cotton is one of the best choices. Today, however, there are also many technical fabrics that are even cooler, like polyester. Remember to read the labels carefully!
In winter, opt for polyester if your pet is allergic to wool* . Polyester it is also moisture-resistant, more durable, easy to care for and keeps the body warm.
*When choosing items with wool, make sure the wool does not come in contact with your pet’s fur or skin directly because:
– it can cause itchiness if the quality is not good;
– your pet could be allergic to the lanolin (a substance found in sheep’s wool made of waxes, oils and alcohol and the latter is most likely to cause itchiness or allergic reactions) in the wool garment. This simply means that the wool was not properly treated prior to going into production;
– some types of wool are too warm for pets. Remember that your dog’s body temperature is higher than that of humans. They should be kept warm but not overheated! Avoid wools like cashmere, alpaca or mohair which are perfect for humans but not our furry friends;
– it will knot or mat the fur of long-haired dogs like Poodles, Maltese, Yorkshire Terriers and so on.
Fleece is a big no no! Although it is warm and cosy, you should avoid it for several reasons as it:
– attracts lint, dirt, dust and thus your dog’s fur will stick to it like a magnet;
– is not durable;
– is static
– unfortunately, is very flammable
What’s the difference between “cosmetics” and “pet care” products?
Cosmetics are substances made with both natural and chemical ingredients. They are for human use only and are applied to body and / or face to improve appearance. Examples include make-up or face creams, or body lotions and so on.
We obviously do not sell cosmetics but only PET CARE products. These are made with organic and natural ingredients. They are, of course, cruelty-free. Some items you can find in our online store are:
-
Spray Toothpaste that kills bacteria and removes plaque;
-
Deo Stop with Zeolite to absorb toxins and pollutants;
-
Protection Spray with essential oils to ward off parasites;
-
Mosquitoes and fleas.
